Policy for NYSMSC Publications
Publications utilizing data collected under the auspices of or by members of the NYSMSC will include NYSMSC investigators in some capacity as circumstances warrant.
NYSMSC adheres to the guidelines set by the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors regarding authorship.1 Generally, NYSMSC investigators designated as authors must meet all of the following criteria: (1) contribute to the concept and design, or analyze and interpret the data; (2) draft the article or revise it critically for important intellectual content; and (3) approve the final version to be published. Authorship based solely on position or on collecting of the data does not constitute authorship.
NYSMSC complies with the position of the International Committee of Medical Journal Editors on Conflict of interest”. Conflict of interest for authors is defined as “financial and other conflicts of interests that might bias their work”.1
NYSMSC Investigators publishing work based on data generated from only his/her own site contained in the NYSMSC database will, at minimum, acknowledge all the NYSMSC investigators in appendix of publication. NYSMSC Investigator publishing work utilizing general NYSMSC data will include in the publication all the NYSMSC investigators contributing substantially with their own data to the publication.
Publications generated from collaborations of Research Interest Groups of the NYSMSC will include Research Interest Group members as principal authors and all the NYSMSC investigators contributing substantially with their own data to the publication. All others NYSMSC investigators will be acknowledged in appendix of publication.
Publications generated by External Collaborators of the NYSMSC utilizing NYSMSC data will acknowledge all NYMSC investigators in appendix of publication. NYSMSC investigators, as per agreement, will be included as authors of any resulting publication. All manuscripts of proposed publications will be provided by External Collaborator to the Scientific Review Committee for review prior to submission for publication.
As per an agreement, the site coordinators substantially contributing to the design, analyze and interpretation of the study data will be included as authors of the study.
Acknowledgements in appendices, or elsewhere, will mention NYSMSC investigators, site coordinators and will include reference to any/all financial considerations provided by or for the NYSMSC.
